I can’t believe Memorial Weekend is coming up already. While school is still in session for a few more weeks here in Loudoun, the pools will be opening and it is the unofficial start of SUMMER! There are so many things to do over the long holiday weekend besides skipping town and heading to the beach. There are lots of weekends ahead to do that.
My husband is a runner, so we will be out at the Cascades 10K Firechase and 911 Fun Run on Saturday, May 24. He used to run marathons (before kids) and got me to do a 5 miler, but since then we have been cutting back to shorter, more manageable runs (like a fun run for me and the girls!).
There are also lots of other events going on in Loudoun to celebrate the holiday. With the forecast calling for sunny warm days, Memorial Day weekend will be a great time to enjoy the outdoors! On Saturday and Sunday, Sunset Hills Vineyard will commemorate all soldiers, sailors and Marines who lost their lives with complimentary wine tastings for visitors who wear red, white and blue. They will be having live music and barbeque, and will be donating a portion of the sales of its 2012 Sunset Red to programs that train helper dogs for our Wounded Warriors.
Great Country Farms, will be kicking off their Strawbery Jubliee this weekend, Northern Virginia’s biggest u-pick strawberry festival. To celebrate the royal strawberry, their Jubilee is packed with live music, farm contests, strawberries and great food. The infamous Pie Eating Contest and Tart Toss will keep you smiling!
You can also get a rare glimpse into horse country this weekend during the 55th Annual Hunt Country Stable Tour Travel through the winding country roads to explore fox hunting barns, thoroughbred breeding farms and country estates.
